The music teacher at my school approached my 2nd grade team mates and I at lunch recently. She knew we were about to start our poetry unit and had a plan. “What if each of your classes created a poem and then in class we put it to music? We could then present it to parents at a 20-30 minute performance in April?” We loved the idea and decided to tie the class poems to our teacher goal this year of perseverance.
So my class and I had yet another discussion on what this word meant. We studied examples of poems and decided what we liked or didn’t like about them. We brainstormed with partners how a class poem with this topic might go.
Here is what we came up with…
I hope you’ll record the performance. I love this connection to the music room!
