Panic

Beep! Beep! Beep!, the alarm sounds on Monday at 5:30am. I shut it off with eyes basically shut and make my way out of bed. Still barely awake I find my workout clothes and get them on.

I shuffle to the bathroom and locate my contacts. Right eye…in. Left eye…in…oh wait! It’s in there but definitely not where it’s supposed to be. Oh boy!

Ok! Don’t panic. Blink a few times and it’ll pop out or make its way to where it belongs.

Blink! Blink! Blink!

Nope! Sh*t! Now what?

Blink! Blink! Blink!

Don’t panic! Close your eye and try to massage it. Maybe it’ll move that way.

Close! Massage! Close! Massage!

Nope! Ugh! Can you see it in there? Oh wait…you only have 1 working eye at the moment. That’s going to be hard.

At least try to Look! Look! Look!

What do I do?! What if it doesn’t come out?! Do I call out of work sick because of this?! Breathe! Stay calm! Go relax back on your bed with your eyes closed. After a few minutes massage it. BUT don’t fall asleep!!!!

Lay! Lay! Lay!

Look! Look! Look!

It’s out! I can’t believe it’s out. What did I really do to get it out! Thank goodness! Now to workout?!?!

  1. I totally get this! I seem to panic very quickly when something is in my eye or my contact is stuck way up somewhere weird. Luckily, even before he started working from home, my husband always seems to be home when the contact thing happens. Or I don’t know what I’d do!!

    Glad it came out!

  2. Your dialogue conveys the rising level of panic perfectly. When you get to asking yourself if you’ll need to take off work for this, we know it’s a big deal and I could truly feel your concerns spinning out. But you brought yourself back by laying down – lowering the body to lower the panic – and relief arrived, almost on its own it seems.

  3. I was right there with you…as someone who used to wear contacts, I totally felt your panic. I’m glad it came out fairly quickly. Well done on waking up early to work out! I need to learn to do this.
