I waited all morning for the sun to come out. Actually, I waited most of the afternoon for the sun to come out. At 3:30 it finally did. I was bundled up and ready. Out the door I went.
As I neared the bluffs I could see many other people had the same idea as me. Some were on the right side of the road. Others on the left. Some even only walking on the grass. Most people were by themselves.
I smiled at the first women I passed. She smiled back.
The second man I passed said, “Hello. How are you?” and I responded.
This went on for several people.
Towards the end of my walk I neared a man who was on the other side of the street. As we got closer he called over to me, “Hey! What are you reading these days?” This perfect stranger and I stood across the street from each other for a few minutes chatting about books. I was invigorated by this simple interaction and it put a smile on my face. I actually jogged home to do a little reading (instead of social media lurking).
We headed down to the beach and at first I was overwhelmed by all the traffic, since I hadn’t left the house in over a week. But everyone was keeping to themselves and just enjoying the fresh air.

Just as it should be.

I think we were all in the same place yesterday. Were you walking along Russian Beach in Lordship? We too were impressed with the way people were out and walking and friendly, but really being careful to respect the social distance rules. I love this person who calls out to strangers and asks about the books you are reading. Books connect us. This man knows that!

Yes. That’s where I’ve been walking almost daily from my house.

Wow, I love this! It’s a good reminder, too, that I should talk to the people I see out, especially the ones who are alone and may be longing for some social interaction. (Also, yes, so difficult to pull away from endless social media scrolling and actually read a book!)

Yes, a great way to connect with people while keeping distance. Shouted conversations about books! What could be better?
I’m reading Saint X by Alexis Schitkin, though I’m not far enough into it to say whether or not I’d recommend it.

The moment when he asked you what book you’re reading these days made me smile too. Sunshine and small moments like these are good for the heart right now. Currently I’m re-reading Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone.

What a wonderful question to ask! I may have to try it on our next walk. I’m currently reading Rules for Visiting.

What a simple, lovely slice of life story. While I am currently reading Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi, I am excited to read these titles. My favorite line from this post was “I actually jogged home to do a little reading (instead of social media lurking).” So true.

I can never remember the title of the book I am reading. Ugh! It’s nice to know , though, that people are thinking about reading and making connections in one great package.

I am hoping to get reading done during this time of limited travel, so I created and shared a document with my coworkers about sharing book recommendations! Keep reading!
