I celebrated my 100th post today.  I shared this accomplishment with my students.

“That’s cool!”

“That’s a lot of writing.”

Overall, they seemed just as impressed with me as I am with myself.

I started this venture not thinking I was a writer.  I am still not sure I am a writer but I do think I’m more willing to try out new genres or structures or even just write.  I have seen how my writing has changed.  I have seen how I don’t struggle as much with my writing because I have made it a habit.  I have seen how writing daily (or weekly) has made me a better (or at least more confident) teacher of writing.

I shared all this with my students in the hopes of getting them to join the April challenge.  I shared these beliefs and more with parents in the hopes of getting them involved too with their child’s writing lives.

I’m hoping by sharing these thoughts and feelings to grow my classroom writing community.  We’ll see how April goes.  I’m definitely getting excited, but nervous too!

  1. Congratulations on your 100th post! Being a teacher-writer has changed my teaching and writing life in so many ways. Your students will grow as a result of this too. Keep writing! 🙂
